Rebekah's warning on the Kamiaze Drop

I did not know Rebekah Leach at the time we launched AerialDownloads.com years ago, but I knew her name was synonymous with aerial education and I knew I would value her opinions, so I contacted her.  What I found was a grounding and incredibly intelligent educator who's philosophy on the business and vocabulary of aerial dance was inspiring.  An initial hobbyist with dance, Rebekah was first and foremost an educator. Her first career path was as a high school math professor, she progressed to creating curriculum for calculus instruction and then moved onto a career as a Master Training Specialist with a high level clearance in the United States Navy. Rebekah is one diversified and competent educator!

Rebekah’s first introduction to aerial dance was at the age of 22 at the 2005 Aerial Dance Arts Festival in Boulder, CO where she witnessed a performance by Fred Deb.  Enamored with the magic of Fred Debs performance, Rebekah took a beginning class where Fred Deb, within 3 days, progressed her to the intermediate level.  Taking her natural ability and passionate motivation forward 10 years we see Rebekah has performed on tour, owned a studio, written a library of instructional manuals, on multiple apparatus, produced numerous tutorial videos, created a teacher training program: Born To Fly, created and manages at least three aerial websites, RebekahLeach.com, Borntoflyaerial.com and AerialDancing.com …and on August 6th, 2016 Rebekah opened her aerial studio in Castle Rock, CO.  Aerial Works Castlerock offering a complete line up of mixed apparatus classes including aerial yoga and children’s aerial, as well as an artist in residency program and giving back through Scholarships.  Wow.

I was fortunate enough to persuade Rebekah to stay with me in Colorado Springs while she was solidifying the details of her Castle Rock studio. I can not express how impressed I was with her ability to juggle a thousand different projects exquisitely at once. I learned a lot from Rebekah, she has inspired me and I hope to share that fire with you!

So please be sure to make time to listen to our podcast here with Rebekah Leach as we chat about her aerial mentors Debbie Park, Fred Deb and Susan Murphy. Rebekah also shares her favorite performance memories and inspirations as well as her theories on studio curriculum and on lighting that performance spark within your students. You’ll learn about her partnerships with Julianna Hane and Paper Doll Militia in relation to her Born to Fly Teacher Trainings and Support, (this program offers comprehensive instruction complete with remote continuing education in subjects such as rigging and online studio business mentorships!) We also talk about her book on pre-natal aerial which is a great resource for all instructors and lastly, don’t forget to check out Rebekah’s video on teaching hip key progressions!

I feel blessed to have Rebekah not to far up the road.  We share awesome staff members and occasionally share experiences regarding the business side of running an aerial studio.
